ST KITTS

I love visiting places that are off the beaten path, and St. Kitts is an island that isn’t mentioned enough. My visit was in July 2022. I was disappointed to learn that I arrived right after the largest music festival on the island had ended.

After a short and smooth flight, I breezed through security and went to pick up my rental car. There was about a 20 minute drive to Frigate Bay where my hotel was located. This is definitely the largest Marriott property in the Caribbean. The room was spacious, with plenty of light and views to remind me that I was far from home. I spent the afternoon getting familiar with the property and all of its amenities. As the sun began to set, I headed out up the road to a local restaurant where I enjoyed a sumptuous lobster dinner while watching the sky turn dark. This was a great start to the trip.

Captivating Travel Moments

The next day, I ventured out for an island tour that would highlight everything one should see while visiting. Since we were on the tail end of Covid, the crowds were still light, making for an enjoyable experience. We started with a scenic drive to Romney Manor, with mountainous views at every turn. Upon reaching our first stop, we had plenty of time to look around and take in the quiet and calm that the gardens had to offer.

Our second stop was at Brimstone Hill, a UNESCO-protected site full of history. Upon arrival, we were shown a short video that provided insight into this location, which was built on the back of slaves. Afterwards, we had ample time to roam the grounds and take in everything that this place had to offer.

Our last stop showcased where the Caribbean and Atlantic oceans meet. The water seemed to flow in different directions but was equally calming. High above the sea, the breezes seemed to meet me where I was sitting. This was a great introduction to this small island.

For my last tour, I planned a day trip to the sister island of Nevis. The crew was very lively and personable. The boat wasn’t full, so there were plenty of seats available. On every trip, I make a new travel pal, and this trip was no different. There was another lady traveling solo, so we connected on what brought us there. The ride was smooth and included a snorkeling stop prior to arriving in Nevis. The water was pretty deep, and there wasn’t much visibility that day, so most of us just opted for a nice swim.

A simple barbecue lunch was provided, which was more than enough. After docking in Nevis, we had several hours to hangout. I headed to Sunshine’s Bar which is a well known staple and home of the killer bee cocktail. Word of advice, you only need one!  Lastly, I did some swimming and relaxing at Cockleshell Beach before we headed back to St. Kitts. This was a very pleasant day.

Visual Journey Through Our Travels

Captivating Travel Moments

On my last full day, I drove around the island and saw so much greenery along the way. I love having the wind blowing and hearing nature’s soundtrack playing throughout the day. I landed at Pinney’s Beach, where the waters were crystal clear, accompanied by some subtle island tunes in the background. A day at the beach with a book in my hand was just what the doctor ordered.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention all of the food I experienced throughout my stay. Whether it was breakfast, lunch, or dinner, everything was fantastic. The freshness and flavors seemed to linger for quite some time.

As I prepared to head home, I reflected on the days I was able to spend on this beautiful island. There was so much to take in during my time here and I’m fortunate for the opportunity to be able to enjoy some much needed downtime as well.
